Retro Gamer Magazine Lives On!
November 4, 2005
With much lamentation I recently wrote of the apparent demise of the most excellent Retro Gamer magazine. It seemed this paean of 80's and early 90's home computer and console gaming was to be no more, as its publisher, Live Publishing, went into administration.
It seems, thankfully, that this is not to be!
I received a letter, as a subscriber of Retro Gamer, from Imagine Publishing that says the following:
- We are pleased to inform you that Imagine has purchased the rights to publish Retro Gamer from the administrators of Live Publishing Intl., Ltd. We will be relaunching Retro Gamer in December. Our first issue will be on sale on the 8th of December for £4.99
Imagine Publishing, which has a background of gaming, and other computer related magazines such as SegaPro, Crash!, Zzap!64, and Play, went on to state that they did not take over the standing subscription liability of Live Publishing, so any standing subscriptions that people (such as myself) may have will not be fulfilled by the new publisher. However, the letter does state that, as a subscriber, I will receive one free copy of the magazine.
This is doubtless wonderful news to many of you reading this. I've greatly enjoyed every issue published and was most distressed to hear of Live's faltering. And not just because they made me famous. I will re-subscribe the moment I have issue 19 in my hands.
